How does a SIP work?

A simple explanation of systematic investment plans and why many investors use them to build discipline.

A Systematic Investment Plan, or SIP, lets you invest a fixed amount at regular intervals in a mutual fund scheme. Instead of waiting for the perfect market level, you build a habit of investing consistently.

SIPs can be useful for salaried individuals, first-time investors and families who want to invest toward goals over time. The amount, fund category and duration should be chosen after understanding your goals, risk comfort and time horizon.

SIP returns are not guaranteed. Mutual fund values can rise and fall with market conditions, so investors should review their investments periodically and read scheme documents carefully.
